Rob Daroff, MD, is a Health Sciences Clinical Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at UCSF and at the San Francisco VA Medical Center where he has been an outpatient psychiatrist for the past 29+ years. He received his BA and MD degrees from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, and completed his psychiatry residency at UCSF in 1994. He recently retired as a US Army Reserve psychiatrist and served on an emergency COVID mission to Philadelphia in 2020 and on a remote post in Kuwait for three months in 2021-22.
Dr. Daroff has been an activist in the queer community since 1983 and in the animal rights community since 2015. Liberation Psychiatry and Psychotherapy is devoted to helping two groups of clients improve their life satisfaction and mental well-being: (1) Any adults from the general population in California; and (2) California-based animal rights activists and animal sanctuary workers. We donate 50% of net proceeds from all services provided to (2) above to animal rights and sanctuary organizations. An additional 5% is donated to the Sogorea Te Land Trust (see below).
Dr. Daroff settled in Huchiun, in unceded Lisjan territory, now known as Oakland/Berkeley, California. We honor the ten thousand years of stewardship of these lands by the Ohlone peoples. Liberation Psychiatry and Psychotherapy donates 5% of our net proceeds to the Sogorea Te Land Trust for reparations of the past and continuing colonization and genocide of indigenous peoples. We support their current rematriation effort, which is “the restoration of a people to their rightful place in sacred relationship with their ancestral lands”. We encourage you to learn more about the Sogorea Te Land Trust and make a donation to support their Rematriation Fund. If you are not living in the East Bay, you can learn more about and uplift the indigenous peoples from the lands you live on here.
